About Us

Themes

We have a vast array of props which the Residents may have used themselves or will at least recognise, to stimulate memories and promote the active recalling of events and life experiences. Participation is voluntary and very informal, giving a relaxed and warm atmosphere in which to enjoy chatting about 'The Good Old Days'. We have grouped items into 'Themes' such as 'Wash Day' or 'School Days' or sensory themes using 'Touchy Feely Bags!' which promote interaction and conversation and are useful triggers of memories of life experiences and days gone by.
Reminiscence World was founded by Robert Wilson, my father, in 1999. He was undertaking a diploma in 'Introduction to counselling' and on placement at a Rugby residential home. One of his tasks was to provide an activity to stimulate the residents into conversation, this being a group of people who rarely conversed. With a variety of artefacts picked up from local antique shops, Robert found that presenting the items promoted comments and the interactive recalling of memories from the residents pasts. Encouraged by the effect this had on the residents, Robert was keen to share the activity with other homes locally and so Reminiscence World was born. We are very proud of what we have created and over the years have conducted sessions in over 100 different venues. Meeting wonderful people and learning so much, enabling us to grow and develop our inventory and themes and continue with our commitment to supporting interaction and communication as an activity for all.

Visits can be as often as once a fortnight or as little as once a year as a special "one-off" event. Our themes will compliment special occasions or celebrations and we are happy to discuss bespoke sessions give enough notice. We also offer a one-to-one session if you feel that this would benifit someone.
